Starmap Astronomy iPhone App

by iPhone Apps on September 30, 2008

If you are an amature or professional astronomer, take a look at Starmap, an astronomy app for the iPhone and iPod Touch.  This is a very cool app that shows you the stars, constellations, planets, galaxies and other deep space objects based on your current location.

Move the sky around, zoom in and out to find globular clusters, nebula and other celestial objects.  You can use the directory, click on an object name and it will show up on the star map.

Find out when planets and the moon rise and set.  Search the catalogue for deep space objects… and even use this app as a flashlight!  Also provides current information on meteor showers.  Starmap is the Swiss Army knife for the amature or professional astronomer and definitely buying.

Currently Starmap sells for $11.99 and is available in English, Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Swedish.  Buy Starmap for the iPhone.

Like it or not, the new generation of astronomy apps is coming. And “Star Map” is going to encounter big competition. I’m talking about the newest “Star Walk” that I saw a demonstration of. It becomes a big deal, mainly showing it’s superb graphics. But wait, this is only the beginning, it’s just developing.
